DIY Marketing Month


June is Entrepreneur's "Do It Yourself" Marketing Month! Here are some free and low-cost ways to market your business:

Use all outgoing and electronic material as business promotion. Of course, you have your business cards (I hope), but think of all the other documents you use-- they are a great way to market your business. Be sure any stationery you give out has your business name, logo, contact info and your website on it; this also includes envelopes, faxes, invoices and any other documents you send. Also, be sure to put your business info in your email signature.

Article writing. Articles that are well-written and informative provide free advertising and also helps develop positive word-of-mouth for your business. The best way to write an article is to write about what you know, so writing about your product or service is probably your best bet. For instance, if you sell and make jewelry, you can write about your process for making certain pieces or what's going on in the world of jewelry design.

Press releases. When creating a press release to promote your business, be sure that the information is newsworthy. Did you just start a business? Is your business expanding? Are you offering a new product or service? These are just a few reasons to send a press release; for more info, check out my post, Press Release Overview.

Promote online. Hopefully, by now, your business has a presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social networking sites. If not, what are you waiting on? These sites help give your business a face and a presence other than your physical location; they help you develop your business through connections with customers and other entrepreneurs; and it's free recognition for your business. Create a business blog. Starting a blog for business is a great way to get the word out about what your company is doing, increase traffic to your website, and connect with potential customers. A business blog can help communicate your business's brand message.
