Why you should consider creating an editorial calendar for your blog

Magazines, newspapers and other publications use editorial calendars to plan stories for future editions. But did you know using one for your blog can be beneficial, too?
According to Gerard McGarry, a web designer and blogger from Ireland, an editorial calendar forces you to think about what you're posting in advance, and it helps structure your writing.

Aditionally, McGarry says that both bloggers and readers can benefit from this. Using an editorial calendar gives bloggers an element of consistency in their work, and it encourages them to consider the bigger picture. Just remember you don't have to be tied down to it; you can- and should- cover any breaking news that's important to your readers.
Readers benefit from calendars, too, because posts will occur more often, and if you use themes, they will know what topics they can expect from your blog.
A couple of ideas for themes are interviews and product reviews of products or services that would interest your readers.

  1. Thx Mocha! I downloaded an excel-based editorial calendar immediately after reading this & can't wait to start using to help my blog strategically. You've reminded me that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail!
